The OE number on your old Corolla steering rack may differ from the number on the quote. How do you check the proposed replacement?
Keep both numbers. A documented change in Toyota's parts catalog can explain a difference, but a similar number or a shared model year cannot settle it. Confirm the proposed reference against the vehicle, then put the old reference, offered reference and supplied components on the order.
Old OE number and catalog reference: two documented examples
Toyota's U.S. parts site lists a Previous Version(s) field for these steering gear assemblies:
| Previous reference shown by Toyota | Part number on the Toyota product page | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 45510-02170 | 45510-02171 | Toyota 45510-02171 product specs |
| 45510-12530 | 45510-02370 | Toyota 45510-02370 product specs |
These are recorded number histories, not a complete Corolla fitment table. Toyota limits that site's information to U.S. vehicles and provides a vehicle/VIN check. Use the catalog for the vehicle's actual market before approving an order.
For Corolla context, Longo Toyota's 45510-02171 listing is headed 2009–2013 Toyota Corolla. Its description adds a dealer note: U.S.-built, 1.8-litre, excluding Japan-built vehicles.
By comparison, ToyotaPartsDeal's listing for the same number shows both 1.8- and 2.4-litre entries. The retail catalogs present different application details. A heading or listing note should not approve or rule out fitment for your car; check the VIN and the catalog for its market.
If the removed unit reads 45510-02170 and the quote reads 45510-02171, Toyota's previous-version field explains why the two numbers can differ. It is not a fitment check for your car. Ask for confirmation against the VIN or the market-specific chassis record. Keep the reference change in the order notes so the workshop can see why the numbers differ.
Do not treat the final digit as a rule for other parts. A number history has to be checked for the exact pair.
Why “2019 Toyota Corolla steering rack” is not enough
Two pages from the same Toyota dealer illustrate the problem:
| Dealer-listed part number | Corolla year range in the page heading |
|---|---|
| 45510-02490 | 2014–2019 |
| 45510-02370 | 2019–2025 |
Both headings include 2019. That overlap establishes neither interchangeability nor which part belongs on an individual car. The pages checked for this guide did not provide a populated detailed vehicle-fitment table.
For a 2019 inquiry, send the VIN or chassis identification, original sales market, body style, engine, production date if available, and left- or right-hand drive. Ask the supplier to explain the proposed OE reference using the relevant vehicle catalog. Do not choose a part number by the year range alone or treat the two examples above as a complete list.
Record the model year, production date and registration year separately when known. Do not copy the registration year into all three fields.
A Corolla with EPS does not automatically need a motor on the rack
Be precise about the component being ordered. “Electric steering rack” can leave the supplier and buyer talking about different assemblies.
In its description of the U.S. 2010 Corolla, Toyota places the electric-assist motor, reduction mechanism and torque sensor in the steering column. That is a specific example of column-mounted assistance; it does not describe every Corolla generation or market. Toyota's 2010 Corolla announcement
With column-mounted assist, “EPS” does not mean the rack carries the motor. Confirm whether the required component is the rack, the steering column or another part identified by the workshop. A fault code or steering noise alone is not an OE-number match.
This guide does not assign the part numbers above to a particular EPS layout. The assembly and the vehicle application still need to be checked together.
What to collect before accepting the proposed replacement
Start with a readable photo of the old unit's label and the complete reference. If a character is unclear, send another photograph; do not fill it in from a search result. Keep any manufacturer identification alongside the OE reference rather than replacing one with the other.
Then get three things confirmed:
- Vehicle application. The VIN or chassis record, original market, build details and steering side used to select the offered reference. Ask which catalog or dealer lookup supports the selection, especially if the reference changes.
- The actual assembly. Photos of the offered unit and confirmation of the relevant mounting arrangement, input connection and any hydraulic or electrical interfaces. Where measurements are needed, have the workshop and supplier agree which dimensions to compare. A photo alone is not final fitment approval.
- What the quote includes. Ask about inner tie rods, outer tie-rod ends, boots, brackets, motor, module and other components relevant to that assembly. Record whether the offered unit is new or remanufactured, along with the seller's warranty and any core-return requirement.
Use the old OE, proposed OE and supplied-part description together. A quote that says only “Corolla rack, complete” leaves the receiving workshop to discover what “complete” means after delivery.
For the older mechanical-rack records already in our catalog, see the separate Toyota Corolla mechanical steering rack OE guide. Those records are starting points for an inquiry; they do not establish that the numbers in this article fit the same vehicles.

Original sales market / body style / engine: [details]
Model year / production date / registration year: [record separately]
Left-hand drive or right-hand drive: [confirmed side]

Proposed replacement OE reference: [supplier to confirm]
Please confirm the vehicle application and explain any change between the old and proposed references. State the catalog or dealer lookup used. List the components included, whether the unit is new or remanufactured, warranty terms and any core-return requirement.

Once the supplier answers, put the agreed reference and component list on the quotation and purchase order. Keep the label photo and application confirmation with them. For a larger purchasing request, our steering rack RFQ checklist covers the rest of the quotation details.
Two questions to settle before ordering
Can 45510-02171 replace a rack marked 45510-02170?
Toyota's U.S. product page for 45510-02171 records 45510-02170 as a previous version. That supports the number-history relationship. Approval for your vehicle still depends on the applicable catalog lookup and the assembly being supplied.
Can 45510-02490 and 45510-02370 be used interchangeably?
The sources checked here do not establish that relationship. Their dealer headings overlap in 2019, which is a reason to ask for a more specific application check. It is not evidence that either rack can replace the other.
Ask KITLAMT about the identified reference
KITLAMT sells new and remanufactured steering racks. Send your Corolla inquiry by WhatsApp or email using our contact details, with the old label photo, vehicle details, quantity and destination. Ask whether we can quote the identified reference and have the offered condition and included components confirmed in writing before ordering.
