The power steering pressure line routing on 1.8T models passes very close to the turbocharger heat shield, and the line must be carefully repositioned during installation to prevent heat damage. Alignment Specifications for B5 Platform

After replacing the steering rack on a VW Passat B5 or Audi A4 B5, the four-wheel alignment must be performed to the following specifications: Front toe — 0°00' ± 10' (total toe, both wheels). Front camber — -0°30' ± 30'. Front caster — 7°30' ± 30' (Passat) or 7°45' ± 30' (A4). Rear toe — 0°10' ± 10' per wheel. Rear camber — -1°15' ± 30'. These are the factory specification values — some alignment shops use slightly different target values based on driving preference. The critical measurement is front toe, which must be set precisely to prevent the characteristic B5 wandering and tire feathering that occurs when toe is even slightly out of specification.
